# The worldbuilding consequence chain for speculative fiction

A worldbuilding detail earns attention when it changes ordinary behavior, access, or conflict. This chain follows one rule through daily life instead of collecting lore.

## Trace one chain

Save one page that makes the method useful, then complete the fields in your own words:

| Field | Prompt |
|---|---|
| **Rule** | What environmental, social, or technical condition exists? |
| **Routine** | What daily behavior follows from it? |
| **Access** | Who can use, avoid, or control the condition? |
| **Conflict** | What pressure emerges from unequal consequences? |

Keep the page number as the route back to the source. Avoid copying a protected passage when a short paraphrase will do.

## Check for lived effects

- Look for food, travel, work, care, communication, or safety.
- Distinguish a stated rule from a consequence shown in action.
- Ask what a less privileged person in the same world would experience.

Write one working sentence:

> My current reading is ____________________________________________.

## Review rule

When the setting adds an exception, extend the chain rather than replacing it. The chain should help explain a scene, not become an encyclopedia.

This is a private reading-reflection aid, not a quotation archive, plot substitute, academic citation, factual verification, or proof of an author's intention. For consequential claims, return to the full passage and verify outside facts independently.
