# The setting-change compass for scene re-entry

A location change can hide inside a paragraph break, a memory, or a shift in who is present. This compass helps a physical-book reader re-enter the scene without building a plot summary.

## Fix four coordinates

Save one page that makes the method useful, then complete the fields in your own words:

| Field | Prompt |
|---|---|
| **Place** | Where are the viewpoint character's feet? |
| **Time** | When is the action happening relative to the previous scene? |
| **Company** | Who is physically present, not merely remembered? |
| **Pressure** | What in the setting makes action harder or easier? |

Keep the page number as the route back to the source. Avoid copying a protected passage when a short paraphrase will do.

## Find the crossing point

- Look backward for the first concrete place word that changes.
- Separate a remembered place from the room where remembering happens.
- Name one setting detail that changes what the character can do.

Write one working sentence:

> My current reading is ____________________________________________.

## Review rule

After one page, update only the coordinate that the text corrects. The compass is successful when you can continue reading without inventing connective plot.
